Alberta Land Titles Fee Increase (October 2024)
Effective Date: October 20, 2024
What's Changing?:
- Land Title Transfers: Variable fee increases from $2 to $5 per $5,000 of property value.
- Mortgage Registrations: Variable fee rises from $1.50 to $5 per $5,000 of mortgage value.
- Flat Fee: The $50 base fee remains unchanged for both.
Example:
- For a $450,000 home purchase with a $405,000 mortgage, fees increase from $401.50 to $955.
How to Avoid the Increase:
Submit your complete transaction documentation to the Alberta Land Titles Office before October 20, 2024, to lock in the current fee structure.
Why the Increase?
These changes are part of Alberta’s 2024-2027 fiscal plan, although the details haven’t been widely publicized. Alberta’s fees will remain lower than many other provinces that impose additional land transfer taxes.
